Safeguarded access
Process
For access to Safeguarded material researchers will need to complete the Safeguarded Access application form (linked in the stock reply below). The application will then be assessed by the CI lead, who will respond to the researcher and organise access if appropriate. Please see the guidance on requests to access safeguarded material in the Sensitivity and Access procedures.
Please save responses in the Safeguarded Access Requests folder in the C&R inbox.
Dear ...,
Thank you for your request to view [add reference].
This item has been assigned the access status ‘Safeguarded’. Safeguarded Access is in place where legal or safeguarding access conditions apply to an item within our collections, for example if it contains child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
In order to view the item, we require you complete a short application form, which will ask you to provide further information about the reason for your request and nature of your work. We ask for this information so that we can assess whether access can be granted, and to set out the terms of access.
You can find the Safeguarded Access application form here. Please note that you can attach any supporting documents to your submission that you think may support your application, but this is optional and at your discretion.
Once you have submitted your form, it will be assessed by an internal review panel within Wellcome Collection to assess the legal, ethical, and safeguarding implications of granting access. We will communicate our decision with you as soon as possible. Applications will be processed promptly and at most within one month from the date that the request was received. Should access be declined, the decision can be appealed via the Access Advisory Panel (see section 6 of our Access to Personal and Sensitive Information within our Collections procedures). If your application is approved, access will be onsite by advance appointment. No photography or copies are to be made and mobile phones with a camera or other recording equipment are not permitted.
If you have any further questions or require support, please contact [email protected].
For further information about how Wellcome keeps your information secure, please see our Privacy Statement.
Kind regards,
