Requesting letter to use collections

Researchers may ask for a letter of invitation to support funding proposals. We can send them a letter confirming that they are welcome to attend to view our collections subject to obtaining library membership, but we need to be careful not to use the term ‘invite’ or ‘invitation’ as there is no defined benefit to Wellcome Collection and we’re not seeking to work in partnership.

Letter template for Wellcome Collection can be found here.

On behalf of Wellcome Collection, I am delighted to confirm that in the event your project XXXX is funded by a XXXX Fellowship, you will have full access, subject to you completing the process for obtaining a library membership card and agreeing to our library conditions of use (further details of which we will provide to you via email), to the research resources enjoyed by library users at Wellcome Collection. This includes access to our collections of [medieval and early modern European manuscripts and printed books, amend as relevant] (to be consulted in our Rare Materials Room), our extensive collections of secondary works, and the library’s various working spaces and study rooms (subject to availability or prior booking via the membership system). Via our enquiry service, you will also be able to seek advice from staff about the collections.

For the avoidance of doubt, this letter of support does not constitute an offer of employment or secondment.

We wish you all the best with your funding application.
