Team inboxes and remits

This page sets out the remits of Collections Information as well as other teams whose input may be required to answer enquiries

There are multiple routes for researchers to contact Wellcome Collection staff with enquiries and no central inbox for emails to be filtered and forwarded to relevant teams for response.

Routes for enquiries from public and Wellcome staff currently include:

  • Emails sent to Collections & Research inbox ([email protected])

  • Under the Collections Enquiries section of the Collections Pages

  • Emails forwarded by the Library Experience & Engagement team (LE&E) or any other teams

  • Emails sent to [email protected], answered by the Visitor Experience Assistants team

  • Emails forwarded by the Exhibitions team [email protected]

  • Queries from social media channels also directed to the C&R inbox

  • Corrections to catalogue records [functionality switched-off, but it is on the roadmap]

Collections Information

We respond to both digital and physical collection-based subject, research, access and bibliographical enquiries from both external researchers and colleagues from across Wellcome Collection. These include enquiries concerning:

  • Access to closed or uncatalogued archive materials

  • Amendments to catalogue records.

  • Provenance details about an item or collection over and above what exists in an item’s catalogue record

  • Help in identifying key specific themes in an archive collection which are not clear from the catalogue.

  • Problems requesting items from the stores, possibly due to an indexing misalignment or cataloguing error.

Library Experience & Engagement

LE&E respond to enquiries relating to access to the Library, both onsite and online. These include enquiries relating to visiting, membership, online requesting, photography and scanning. They also offer advice on access to, conservation care and research of the printed physical collections, digitised works and the subscription-based resources. Collections Development

CD respond to acquisition-based, book recommendation and collection donation enquiries only. Acquisition/donation enquiries can be forwarded to [email protected]. See the Acquisitions/donations page for stock reply.

Research & Enquiry (formerly Research Development Team)

RD respond to enquiries about research events and activities, and to queries about potential partnerships. We also liaise with the team on specialist enquiries on a case by case basis. The contact email (for internal use only) *C&S/Research Development Team.

Media Team

Please respond to enquiries from the Media Team as a priority.

  • Requests for information sent by the Media Team

Requests for information should be handled by the team answering enquiries as far as possible, however for specialist information please forward the request to relevant colleagues, copying the media team into the email. If you are not sure the topic is covered by a specific individual please send an all C&R email, and respond to the media team with an update once you’ve had a response. The Media Team welcomes suggestions for relevant external specialists if we do not have the knowledge in-house.
