Catalogue amendments

Process

It is not normally necessary to record amendments you have made to catalogue entries, except:

  • Visual material amendments have a specific process to follow. Read the quick reference guide for instructions.

  • For any changes to reference numbers, the previous reference number should be recorded in the catalogue record so that anyone who accessed the material before can still find it.

  • You may want to consider sharing any changes made as a result of outdated/offensive language at the Access & Sensitivity forum, as part of team knowledge sharing and learning.

In the case of Visual materials there may be a question relating to the title that has been used in the record. Until 2018 items in our Visual Collections were given descriptive titles. In 2018 we revised this approach and applied DCRM(G) and RDA cataloguing standards, which has changed how we allocate titles to Visual works. Due to the volume of works already catalogued we are unable to retrospectively re-catalogue works, but we can amend titles where appropriate.
