STATUS field (88) : access status

In Sierra, the access status is denoted by the Status field in the item record.

The one exception to this is the Restricted access status. For reasons to do with how material is ordered and placed on hold, the restricted access status is required to be denoted by the Opacmsg field.

Only the following codes should be used. Whilst there are other options listed in each field in Sierra, no other codes should be used.

To set out the conditions under which access is available, or the reasons why access cannot be provided. Also to provide public information about previous closures or restrictions.

Rules

  • For all other access and ordering statuses, an access conditions statement must be provided. This is recorded in either the 506 field (bib record) or DisplayNote (item record), depending on the status.

See for more details about the Data issues, Missing and Withdrawn access statuses

Items that are temporarily unavailable because they are on exhibition are dealt with differently. See

The default assumption is that material is open and orderable online. In this instance a statement is not required, unless there are additional considerations (see )

See for the list of available statements to use.
