2.6 Child sexual abuse material
The following pages detail the process to follow when considering access to Collections material that contain imagery of child sexual abuse.
Please note: whilst these pages contain information that some may find distressing, no actual child sexual abuse material is reproduced within them.
Wellcome is committed to the safety and welfare of all those who come into contact with our work, in particular children and adults at risk. We are a research body and as such may hold images which are sensitive or explicit. We are committed to ensuring these are held, stored and used in a lawful and appropriate way.
Newly identified items within our collections that are deemed to be child sexual abuse material need to be flagged immediately to the Collections Information Manager and Safeguarding Lead, who in turn will contact the Legal Business Partner.
It is more likely that such material would be identified within our existing collections during inventory, cataloguing or digitisation, as Wellcome Collection will not actively acquire further child sexual abuse material.
