Creators (formerly Authors)
Catalogued material
Author/s for catalogued material will be exported from fields 100 and 700 in Sierra. No input from the Inventory team is required.
Uncatalogued material
For uncatalogued material, we have the option to record authorship. In compliance with Wellcome’s Cataloguing Guidelines, please record the name of the actual maker (e.g. engraver) in the 100 field. Use field 700 for the ‘inventor’, or painter of the original image.
If unsure just use one of the two fields (ideally 700) and separate multiple people’s names with a semicolon.
People’s names should be recorded in the following format: Surname, forename and if they have a title this should be added in brackets after the forename.
e.g. Abberbury, John (Sir)
For surnames that include prefixes (e.g. van, der, de la), LC convention is for the prefix to be included in the first name, e.g:
Gogh, Vincent van.
Humboldt, Alexander von.
Vega, Garcilaso de la.
