Length
Definition
Total length of the medium carrying the first known manifestation of the Work (FIAF 2.3.5.2).
Duration should always be recorded for a work, however where this is not known physical length or capacity of the carrier can be recorded as an alternative, such as the length of a film or audio tape reel. This helps to give an idea of the possible duration of the work, and can be used to determine potential costs for digitisation.

FYI
Important for digitisation as this is how things are costed.
Extra important for audio as there are added complexities eg. tracks and speed (although most of the 'regular' material from the mid 1980s onwards is consistent in nature, this is not the case for everything).
