Leader Fields

The Sierra leader is at the top of the Bibliographic record, the MARC leader is directly below.

Sierra Leader

LANG three letter code for the language of the item. See LC Language Codes & Lang. eng = English zxx = No linguistic content

For an item in multiple languages, list the predominant language first. If no language predominates then use the code that is first alphabetically.

007 Physical description

Used for Visual & Material Culture (2D Graphic material) and Audio Visual records.

The 007 options are determined by the Category of Material recorded at the start of the field.

MatCatg m = motion picture 007 for motion picture (film reels and cartridges) s = sound recording 007 for sound recordings v = videorecording 007 for videorecordings

Spec Mat select the appropriate option

Colour select the appropriate option

Format select the appropriate option

SoundSep (sound on medium or separate) select the appropriate option , if there is no separation, sound on medium = a

Med Snd (medium for sound) select the appropriate option from the options, blank = no sound/silent film

Dimens (width of the film) select the appropriate option from the options in Sierra, a = sound on medium if no separation

ConfPlay (configuration of playback channels for sound)

008 Date & Country

Date Ent = catalogued date (YYMMDD).

Dat Type in most cases the code will be s, options include:

s = single known or probable date (year)

t = a publishing date and a copyright date together (to be entered in this order)

q = questionable date, exact date unknown, but range of years can be specified. Put the earliest date in Date 1 and the latest in Date 2

m = multiple dates. Use for multi-part items

n = dates unknown. Use for [date of creation not identified] and similar situations, where no other code applies and a reasonable date cannot be determined. Both Date 1 and Date 2 should be coded uuuu

i = inclusive dates of a collection. Use for unpublished items that have a range of dates of execution.

Dates included in the Fixed field should be led by the 264 field

Date One the date the work was published/created. for a single probable date (s) enter the probable date, do not use u. for questionable dates (q) represent the unknown numeral(s) with a u

Date Two use for : - the copyright date - the final date of a multi-volume set - the original date of publication of a reprint - the later date for a for questionable date.
