EPB Planchests [obsolete collection]

EPB Planchests was a 'collection' containing all the EPBs that were stored in planchests across B11 and the Strong Room rather than in sequences on the shelves. There was limited information on the records as to which planchest they were stored in, making it difficult for inventory and retrievals.

To support better location and movement control and clearer collections management, the decision was made to subsume the material into the main sequences and to add a location hierarchy in the current location field. This would also support a conservation project to free up space in the planchests.

During inventory, sixty-four catalogued EPB items were found in B11, five books from the Mons series and three uncatalogued EPB items. The Strong Room planchests had 17 items. All were subsumed into mainly EPB/D and EPB/F because of their size and had 'EPB Planchests' added as a former location. S1 1 planchests only contained oversize ephemera which will be catalogued as part of the ephemera workstream. There were also a couple of duplicate records marked as data issues and three records which were clearly part of the oversize ephemera.

The main challenge was what to do with the 'Planchest of Discovery' in B11 which was full of book fragments collected from planchests in 2006.

Plan for Planchest of Discovery [to be confirmed at a later date]

Spreadsheet of uncatalogued EPB fragments

use temporary numbers

reason e.g. section of a book, found in a book, extract of a book, single item, part of a book

identify single items to to be added to sequences

create folders of fragments for further listing and reconciliation (how many are fragments that have fallen out of EPBs vs fragments which standalone as items of interest)
