EPB American
Creating new shelfmarks
The items with a North American imprint were sorted on the shelves by publication year and author but did not have shelfmarks. To prevent the team needing to search the entire Sierra catalogue for the correct record we created a Review file of all the items located in EPB American.
The items with a Latin American imprint, which had already been inventoried, were removed and the file was sorted by publication date (Leader Date One) and Author (100). As books were inventoried they were given new sequential shelfmarks. When the team reached the end of a year, any remaining items were checked against Sierra and, if not found, added to the uncatalogued spreadsheet.
During the inventory it was discovered that the pre-1851 American almanacs had been shelved separately despite having the same EPB American location. These were listed first as missing but later re-integrated into the EPB AM sequence.
