# Wellcome Chemical Research Laboratories (WCRL)

Established c.1896 as a laboratory under the directorship of Dr Frederick Belding Power. Theoretically independent of [Burroughs Wellcome & Company (BW & Co.)](https://docs.wellcomecollection.org/transcribe-wellcome/research/organisations/bw) but in practice administered through their head office and carried out some work on company products.
