## [600](https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/6xx/600.html) Subject added entry - Personal name (R)

Use this field to provide a subject heading for a person. Take the name from the [Library of Congress name authorities](https://authorities.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local\&PAGE=First).

**Indicators**

The first indicator changes depending on the form of name. Most of the time it will be **`1`**, for surname. If the heading begins with a forename (or is just one name), use **`0`**. If the subject is a family, use **`3`**.

The second indicator should be **`0`** to show it is a Library of Congress heading.

**Construction**

You can use subdivisions to give dates (**`|d`**), relator terms, form subdivisions (e.g. Biography) (**`|v`**) and titles (**`|t`**). See [OCLC](https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/6xx/600.html) for full list of subfields.

## [610](https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/6xx/610.html) Subject added entry - Corporate name (R)

Use this field to provide a subject heading for an organisation or jurisdiction. Take the name from the [Library of Congress name authorities](https://authorities.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local\&PAGE=First).

**Indicators**

The first indicator shows what type of name is being used. It is usually **`2`** for a name in direct order or **`1`** for a name beginning with a geographic term (often used for government departments).

The second indicator should be **`0`** to show it is a Library of Congress heading.

**Construction**

You can use subdivisions to give dates (**`|d`**), relator terms, form subdivisions (e.g. Biography) (**`|v`**) and titles (**`|t`**). See [OCLC](https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/6xx/610.html) for full list of subfields.

This field is used to add a subject heading for a meeting, usually a conference. Take the name from the [Library of Congress name authorities](https://authorities.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local\&PAGE=First).

**Indicators**

The first indicator shows what type of name is being used. It is usually **`2`** for a name in direct order or **`1`** for a name beginning with a geographic term.

The second indicator should be **`0`** to show it is a Library of Congress heading.

**Construction**

It is often subdivided by number (**`|n`**), date (**`|d`**) and location (**`|c`**). This information should be put in brackets.

{% endhint %}

## [648](https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/6xx/648.html) Subject added entry - Chronological term (R)

Take these from the local list of [time periods](https://docs.wellcomecollection.org/library-cataloguing/9yMHsFGBXS9DDRGtdmSE/authorities/local-subject-headings/time-periods). Only add a term if the item is about a specific time period.

**Indicators**

The first indicator is **`blank`** and the second indicator is **`4`** to show the source of the term is not specified.

{% hint style="info" %} <mark style="background-color:blue;">**648 4**</mark>Medieval (500-1300)

{% endhint %}

## [650](https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/6xx/650.html) Subject added entry - Topical term (R)

This field is used to add topical subject terms to items. See [Subject headings](https://docs.wellcomecollection.org/library-cataloguing/9yMHsFGBXS9DDRGtdmSE/authorities/subject-headings) for more information about the schemes we use and how to apply terms.

**Indicators**

The second indicator indicates which scheme the term is from. It should be **`0`** for Library of Congress (LOC) headings, **`2`** for Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) or **`7`** for other schemes (including Homosaurus or local terms).

The first indicator is usually **`blank`** except for when using MeSH headings, where it is used to specify the level of heading. Indicator **`1`** is used for primary terms and **`2`** for secondary terms.

**Format**

Subdivisions are often used in LOC and MeSH headings to make terms more specific, such as form (**`|v`**), time period (**`|y`**), geography (**`|z`**).

When using Homosaurus or local terms, you need to add a subfield **`|2`** at the end of the field giving the source of the term.
