# Opening times

Daily opening times display automatically in the footer and What's On header. They also appear anywhere that the Collection Venue body slice has been added to a page in Prismic (typically the Opening Times page and individual venue pages: Library, Cafe, Shop).

These times reflect any override dates that have been entered into Prismic.

## Modifying opening times

### When to modify

Four weeks before modified opening times, the revised times will display as a jaunty yellow box alongside the regular opening times. Once the date has passed, the modified opening times will disappear.

Because opening times display four weeks before, they should ideally be entered into the system six weeks before, to enable users to plan their visits.&#x20;

#### Bank holidays

Visitor Experience team should email to confirm dates for public holiday closures in advance.&#x20;

Bank holidays and Easter/Christmas have modified opening times across galleries, eat & shop, library. The Library is always closed from 24 December - 1 January, but it may be closed a day or two earlier, depending on how Christmas falls.

#### Other / unusual hours

Teams may communicate unusual hours e.g. for stock take. These should be entered as soon as possible.&#x20;

### How to modify

The content of the main tab should not change. It's used to set the title of the venue and the order in which it should be displayed on the page. These should not need to change.

Once a venue is selected, there are 3 tabs: 'Main', 'Regular opening times' and 'Modified opening times'.

To edit the opening times for a venue, choose 'Collection Venue' from the "Type" dropdown and select the venue to modify. &#x20;

Prismic contains a content type 'Collection Venue' which allows opening times to be entered for each of the venues in Wellcome Collection, i.e. Galleries, Library, Cafe and Shop.&#x20;

When there are closures or modified opening times across multiple days, each day needs to be added separately (not entered as a date range).

#### To add a closure

If the venue is closed on a particular day, the Opens and Closes fields should be left blank. When selecting opens and closes times, the date chosen doesn't actually matter, just the time that is selected.

#### To add modified times

* Add a new element for each date you want to override the opening times.
* Select the Override date.
* Then select the type of override the date is associated with, e.g. Bank holiday, Easter, etc.
* Then select the opens and closes times for that date.

#### Extra visibility for library closures

Because people plan research visits so far ahead, there is an additional option to display closures visible on the Library page.&#x20;

To set this:

* Filter Prismic content by type: Page. Search for Library and find The Library (<https://wellcomecollection.prismic.io/documents~k=pages&w=library&b=working&c=published&l=en-gb/Wuw19yIAAK1Z3Smm/>).&#x20;
* Scroll down to Collection venue's hours.

The closure periods for that venue will display, instead of its opening hours, like this:
